About us
Our Story..
Skai Sushi is the result of years built on passion, learning, and community support.
Our journey began in 2011 with the ownership of a Japanese restaurant in Lynden, Washington. After successfully establishing and selling the restaurant, we entered a new chapter by taking over Beachwood General Store, where we introduced sushi and created a take-out–focused café experience.
Beachwood General Store was previously owned by longtime members of the community and the parents of the chef’s wife, whose family has served the area for decades. From 1997 to 2011, her parents also owned and operated a beloved local teriyaki restaurant, helping build lasting relationships and trust within the community.
The chef’s path into sushi was shaped by dedication and persistence. Without formal training, he studied extensively through books and tutorials and refined his craft under the mentorship of a highly skilled sushi chef from California, who trained and guided him for several months.
Behind the scenes, the chef’s wife leads business operations and played a key role in developing Skai Sushi’s menu and the art. Together, the chef and his wife are deeply committed to their respective roles, believing that every detail—from the sushi itself to the way it is presented—is a form of art. Creating beautiful, intentional experiences is not just their work; it is their passion.
Today, Skai Sushi is proud to serve beautifully crafted, fresh sushi, made with care, artistry, and respect for the community that continues to support them.
